Mr. Secretary of State Sofiane Chaib Presents the Outcomes of Algeria’s APRM Chairmanship

The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, participated, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee of Focal Points of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), in the session dedicated to the presentation and discussion of periodic reports scheduled within the framework of the 35th Forum of Heads of State and Government of the APRM, held today in Addis Ababa.

The meeting took place with the participation of an Algerian delegation led, as representative of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by the Prime Minister, Mr. Seifi Ghrib.

During his intervention, the Secretary of State presented a comprehensive report on Algeria’s chairmanship of the Committee in 2025, a year marked by notable progress in strengthening governance across the continent, particularly through the scheduling and implementation of several country review missions.

He highlighted the major achievements accomplished during Algeria’s rotating presidency, notably the adoption of the 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, the enhancement of governance assessment mechanisms, and the integration of digital governance as a key pillar within the evaluation framework. He further emphasized the efforts undertaken to promote youth participation in governance processes, strengthen the APRM’s role in conflict prevention and early warning, and advance the project to establish the African Credit Rating Agency.

Following the discussion and adoption of the report, the new chairmanship, assumed by the Republic of Uganda, commended the progress achieved over the past two years. Participating delegations and the Continental Secretariat also praised the positive outcomes of Algeria’s leadership, underscoring the country’s pivotal role in advancing and consolidating governance across Africa under the enlightened leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
