Opening of the Conference of Heads of Consular Centers Led by the Prime Minister under President Tebboune’s Directive

Under the directive of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Prime Minister, Mr. Seifi Ghrib, today oversaw the official opening of the Conference of Heads of Consular Centers, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, the Adviser to the President of the Republic in charge of diplomatic affairs, Mr. Ammar Abba, as well as several government members and senior state officials.

In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized that this conference reflects the policy adopted by the country’s highest authorities to support the national community abroad, considered a strategic component and an inseparable part of the national fabric.

He highlighted that public policies implemented over the past two decades have led to significant progress in consular work, particularly through the expansion of the consular network worldwide and the modernization of services, in line with the profound demographic, social, and economic changes affecting the Algerian community abroad and its increasingly important role in host countries.

The Prime Minister also stressed that the current period requires the consular network to elevate its performance to meet the directives of the President, particularly regarding the protection of citizens abroad, simplification of administrative procedures, improvement of service quality, acceleration of digital transformation, and the development of innovative mechanisms to meet the evolving needs of the community, especially in economic and cultural fields.

In this context, he called on the heads of consular centers to adopt a practical and results-oriented approach, producing clear and actionable recommendations within specified deadlines, ensuring more effective and flexible consular management, strengthening the connection of the national community abroad with their homeland, and reinforcing their role as active partners in the national development process.

For his part, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, stated in his opening remarks that this three-day conference, conducted through specialized thematic workshops with the participation of 43 heads of consular centers, including consuls general and consuls, as well as heads of consular services in diplomatic missions, represents an institutional platform to assess consular practices and exchange experiences, within a participatory framework involving multiple ministerial sectors and relevant national bodies.
